Within the Little Learners group, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. By means of appropriate play activities and a high level of adult input, we offer a programme, which enables children to progress towards the early learning goals throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage. We provide indoor and outdoor activities which are adult-led and child initiated, enabling us to carry out observational assessments on the children’s development. The seven areas of learning that supports children to develop are as follows.

Learning & development 1

Communication and language

In both small and large groups, children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking, listening, hearing and responding to stories, songs and rhymes.

Learning & development 1

Physical development

A range of equipment and opportunities, both indoor and out of doors, allows children to develop confidence and enjoyment in the use and development of their bodily skills. At the same time, children are supported in the development of the fine motor skills required to use tools, including pens and pencils, and to handle small objects with increasing control and precision.

Personal, social and emotional development

Within a nurturing environment, children are individually supported in developing confidence, independence, self-respect and valuing their own achievements. Through activities, they learn acceptable ways to express their own feelings and to have respect for the feelings of others..

Learning & development 1

Literacy

A well-stocked book corner gives every child the opportunity to become familiar with books. Children are helped to understand that written symbols carry meaning and to use drawn and written symbols for themselves. Through phonic activities the children are encouraged to link sounds and letters. We encourage children to join in with our library scheme, whereby the children can take home a book each week.

Learning & development 1

Understanding of the world

The children will explore and experiment with a range of natural and manufactured materials to develop their knowledge about the world in which they live. Children are assisted in exploring and understanding their environment and both their own and other cultures.

Learning & development 1

Mathematics

By means of adult supported practical experience, the children become familiar with sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting activities, which form the basis of early mathematics..

By participating in these activities, and with the guidance of our experience, caring and friendly staff, your child will soon develop the social, physical and intellectual skills which will help them to experience the full realisation of their personality and abilities and move towards the early learning goals.

We aim to provide a caring learning environment, where each child can progress at their own rate, gaining the skills needed when entering school.
